A way to get more air into the engine. The Si has a turbo no need for that second valve and extra lift because the turbo is doing the job. If anything, the turbo becomes the limiting factor at higher RPMs. Our engines have variable valves- just not screaming Vtec (yo) from the earlier generations. That isn't to say our engine is a slacker.
Anyway, that is another discussion. The latest Civic is powered by a turbocharged 1.5-litre inline-4 that produces 127hp (129PS) and 180Nm, an improvement of 4hp and 28Nm over the naturally aspirated 1.6-litre model. The boosted engine is wonderful at low to moderate speeds, thanks to the 180Nm at 1700rpm.
