4 days ago · My initial thought on the the RF200-800 was that the aperture was two slow. However at the price point I may pop for one and quit thinking about the 100-500. As much as I would like a 600 F4 I cannot justify the price point as an amateur. On another note the 24-105 f2.8 looks like a great lens for the other things I do.
If you take a look at the exciting new tamron 35-150 2-2.8, it’s certainly possible to make 24-105 2.8, but it’ll be bigger and heavy. Also making a 24-70 2.8 and 70-200 2.8 just seems logical to them I’m sure. Well, they made 28-70/2 which seemed impossible to just a few years ago. It's called innovation.
One could say that this lens merges together both the Canon 70-200mm f/2.8 and the Canon 300mm f/2.8. Looking at the specs of the Canon RF 100-300mm f/2.8, several features caught my eye. First and foremost, of course, is the price. While the Canon RF 70-200mm f/2.8 lens retails for $2800, the new RF 100-300mm f/2.8 will be available for $9500.
This is clearly a great lens especially for video. There is now a gap between the rf 24-105 f4L and the new RF 200-800mm lens. I realize there is the RF 70-200 f2.8 lens, but this is rather expensive. It seems to me an RF 24-200 F4L lens would fill this gap and be a very desirable lens. •••
